Research

We are delighted that Claudia Pacheco Araoz will be working at Kolumba for four months, from May to August 2025, as part of a research fellowship from the Alexander Rave Foundation. Claudia Pacheco Araoz is a Bolivian researcher, curator and author who works at the intersection of culture, politics and everyday experience. Her work challenges colonial and technocratic approaches to culture by developing alternative methodologies rooted in social justice, emotion and collective memory. At the invitation of Valeria Fahrenkrog, Claudia Pacheco Araoz will be researching new forms of (cultural) relationship through art and the concept of hospitality and care. The focus is on Kolumba as a place of art and exchange, where people from a wide variety of contexts come into contact with each other. “I work with simple means: walking, having conversations without recording devices, marking routes on a map, observing respectfully without interrupting. I am interested in what happens between visits, in the connections between those who work here and those who return without knowing exactly why.” In addition, Claudia Pacheco Araoz will explore the interfaces that Kolumba's collection has with Latin American countries and indigenous artistic and religious practices.
She will be present every Thursday between 2 and 5 pm in Valeria Fahrenkrog's kiosk (room 11). Interested visitors are cordially invited to come and talk to her. We would be delighted if you could register in advance: araoz.pacheco@gmail.com, 0049 (0)157 561 56 967 & ticket@kolumba.de, as this is the only way we can welcome you free of charge.
